How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy may be helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Many people seek therapy during life transitions, after stressful or traumatic experiences, or when emotional patterns start affecting daily life. You do not need to be in crisis to begin therapy. A consultation can help determine whether therapy is a supportive next step for you.
What types of issues do you help with in therapy?
At Barefoot & Balanced, we support clients with concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, ADHD, relationship challenges, and emotional regulation difficulties. We also work with individuals navigating identity exploration, family dynamics, and major life changes. Therapy is tailored to your unique experiences and goals.
What should I expect during my first therapy session?
Your first session is a chance to slow down and talk about what brings you to therapy in a supportive, non-judgmental space. Your therapist will ask questions to better understand your concerns, background, and goals. You are always in control of what you share, and there is no pressure to go deeper than you’re ready for. The focus is on connection, clarity, and next steps.
How do I choose the right therapist?
Choosing the right therapist is about finding someone you feel comfortable with and understood by. A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in progress. Our team offers a range of experience and approaches, and we can help match you with a therapist who aligns with your needs.
How long does therapy usually take?
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline for therapy. Some clients benefit from short-term work focused on specific concerns, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper healing and growth. Progress is reviewed regularly, and the pace of therapy is always collaborative and guided by your needs.
Is EMDR therapy available at your practice?
EMDR therapy is available to a limited number of clients. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based approach used to help process distressing memories and experiences. Not all clients or concerns are appropriate for EMDR, and readiness is carefully assessed before beginning. Your therapist will discuss whether this approach may be a good fit for you.
Do you accept insurance for therapy services?
Insurance acceptance varies by therapist and service. At Barefoot & Balanced, some clinicians are credentialed with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Kaiser, Providence, United Healthcare, Aetna, Moda, and PacificSource. Not all clinicians accept all insurance plans, so coverage depends on the provider you work with.At this time, we do not accept Medicaid or Medicare plans. Our team will help you review benefits and confirm coverage during the intake process so you can make an informed decision.
How much does therapy cost if I am paying out of pocket?
Out-of-pocket session fees at Barefoot & Balanced typically range between $175–$200 per session, depending on the type of service. Many Oregon clients choose private-pay therapy when they prefer greater flexibility, privacy, or when their insurance plan is out of network. We are happy to provide superbills for clients who wish to seek possible reimbursement from their insurance provider. During the intake process, we can review fees and help you understand your options so you can make an informed decision.
Do you offer virtual (telehealth) therapy in Oregon?
Online therapy allows clients to access care from the privacy of their own space while maintaining flexibility and consistency. During the intake process, we confirm that you are physically located in a state where your assigned therapist is licensed to practice.
How often should I attend therapy?
Therapy frequency is based on your goals, needs, and current stress levels. Many clients begin with weekly sessions, especially at the start of therapy, and adjust over time as progress is made. Session frequency is always discussed collaboratively and can change as your needs evolve.
